Comparisons of adrenal activation in response to 25 mg. of injected ACTH and to subconvulsive electroshock have been made in 9 schizophrenic patients using eight indices of adrenal function.

A significant positive correlation is described between adrenal cortex responsivity to pretreatment injections of ACTH and prognosis in subsequent electroshock therapy.
