Prolonged Sneezing

A Case Report

NEVILLE MURRAY M.B. and JOSHUA BIERER M.D.1

1 29 Harley St., London W1, England

The case of a boy who suffered from continuous sneezing for 33 days is discussed. An extreme form of allergy was exhibited, but the standard treatments against it failed. With the help of a recording apparatus it was established that the rate of sneezing increased considerably under emotional stress. It was suggested that emotional stress might be the cause of his prolonged sneezing. The cause of this emotional stress was ascertained, and when it was removed the sneezing stopped. The patient is still under a re-educational and psychotherapeutic regimen.
