Body Image and Upper in Relation to Lower Body Sector Reactivity

SEYMOUR FISHER Ph.D.1

1 Baylor University College of Medicine, Houston, Tex.

It was the intent of the study to test the hypothesis that the ratio of reactivity of an upper body site to a lower site is significantly linked with the relative size attributed to each in body schema judgments. The reactivity of the body sites was evaluated by means of a measure of basal skin resistance. Body schema judgments were obtained by requesting subjects to vary the distance between two luminous rods so as to reflect comparisons of the sizes of given body sectors. Over-all, the data significantly supported the hypothesis.
