Conception After Adoption: An Open Question

A review of the literature of the last 30 years on the relationship between adoption and fertility shows conflicting results. Although most papers negate the commonly held view that adoption promotes conception in infertile couples, they have a variety of methodologic problems which limit a valid final conclusion. Some of these problems are discussed in the light of our current understanding of psychogenic infertility, and suggestions are made for their resolution.
