Psychogenic Peripheral Vasospasm

A Case Report

EDWARD J. WEISS 1

1 876 Park Avenue, New York City. Formerly Captain, Medical Corps, Chief of Neuropsychiatric Service, William Beaumont General Hospital, El Paso, Texas

A case of severe peripheral vasospasm affecting chiefly the lower extremities is presented. The condition failed to respond to the usual forms of therapy, but after six months' duration completely cleared as a result of one week of intensive psychotherapy.

Apparently psychogenic factors not only may play a role in the course of peripheral vascular disorders but may also be the sole discoverable pathogenic agents in some vasospastic disorders.
