Linear regression analysis shows an absence of significant correlation between age and 24-hour cortisol in the patient group (r = .26). In the comparison group there is a significant positive correlation between age and 24-cortisol (r = .56; p < .01). ANCOVA reveals significantly higher concentrations in depressed patients (df = 1,34; F = 93.5; p < .01) and a significant correlation with age (df = 1,34; F = 4,9; p < .05).
