Blood was drawn at 23:00, 03:00, and 06:30 hours. There was a significant group effect (F(1,21) = 6.9, p < .01), a significant time effect (F(2,42) = 5.0, p < .01), and a significant group by time interaction (F(2,42) = 5.7, p < .01). IL-6 levels decreased from 03:00 to 06:30 hours (p < .05) in the controls, whereas IL-6 increased from 03:00 to 06:30 hours (p < .01) in alcoholics.
