The model included age at the time of Trait Anger measure, duration between baseline and to the first carotid scans, and duration between the first and second carotid scans. These paths are not shown for the clarity of figure. The metabolic syndrome variable 0 = remained free from the metabolic syndrome over the follow-up, 1 = developed the metabolic syndrome over the follow-up. Continuous variables were log-transformed.
